HANEFELD opens office in Paris

Effective 1 March 2020, Germany’s premier dispute resolution boutique HANEFELD has opened an office in Paris. The firm has recruited Dr. Maria Hauser-Morel, a Polish qualified lawyer admitted to the Paris bar under Directive 98/5/EC, as counsel to be based in the Paris office. After having worked for reputable Polish and international law firms in Warsaw and Paris, Maria has until recently headed the ICC Court’s case management team dealing primarily with cases in Central and Eastern Europe.

HANEFELD has established its Paris office in reaction to the firm’s steadily growing involvement in high profile international commercial and treaty-based cases. The firm’s portfolio includes arbitrations subject to a variety of laws and seated in various jurisdictions (Europe, including Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Scandinavia, the Middle East and Africa, the Asia Pacific region and the United States). In addition to their work as counsel, all of the firm’s partners sit as arbitrator in international matters. Moreover, some of the firm’s partners have repeatedly acted as German law experts before foreign courts.

On the opening of the Paris office, HANEFELD’s Founding Partner and ICC Court Vice President Dr. Inka Hanefeld commented: “We are thrilled to open our first international office in Paris. Paris is one of ‘the’ major international arbitration hubs and we have always had special ties to the city and its international arbitration community. With the establishment of our Paris office, we will further strengthen these ties and increase our capacity to offer first class services to our clients.”

HANEFELD’s Managing Partner Jan Heiner Nedden, who, like Maria, is also a former Counsel of the ICC Court, comments: “Maria was a first choice for our Paris office. I worked with Maria at the ICC for many years. She is a brilliant lawyer and a true gain for our team. I am confident that Maria’s close connections towards Central and Eastern Europe, together with her special expertise in construction law and in disputes involving States or State entities, will be of additional benefit to our firm’s clients.”

HANEFELD was founded as Germany’s first dispute resolution boutique in 2011 and quickly developed an international outreach in major arbitration and litigation cases. HANEFELD is listed in the GAR 100 and received the prestigious JUVE Award as Dispute Resolution Firm of the Year in 2017. HANEFELD’s lawyers receive praise in numerous rankings for their counsel, arbitrator and litigation work, and for their particular expertise in dispute resolution in combination with their solutions-oriented approach to resolving complex arbitration and litigation matters.
